Project Beijing Aircraft Catering Centre
Description This project is the first air-craft catering centre in China.  (Another was built around the same time in Shanghai.) Because this food factory was located inside the Beijing Airport area, there was building height restriction.   M&P was commisioned as the M&E consultant with the specific requirement for Comined Services Co-ordination Design to integrate all the building services and production equipment and accommodated them within the height restriction.  After initial misunderstanding, the building design followed M&P’s CSCD’s, and the project was successfully completed in 1993.
Highlight CSCD’s to Integrate Building Services with Production Facilities

M&P was commissioned to carry out the M&E designs in Hong Kong, and with our CSCD’s to resolve the design conflicts between the building structure, building services and the production facilities. M&P’s drawings would be handed over to the local design institute in China who would prepare individual system installation drawings.   The design institute had little exposure to the CSCD concept, and so in shop drawing stage, they amended M&P’s CSCD’s to simplify the individual system layouts.   But when the contractors started to install these M&E services on site, they found that multiple services were fighting for the same space; and the installation works had to be suspended.

A review of the site problems determined that M&P’s CSCD’s had resolved these multi-services design conflicts; but the multi-services design solutions were overlooked during the shop drawing simplification exercise.  Another set of shop drawings were prepared in accordance with M&P’s CSCD’s, and installation work resumed.  The project was successfully completed in 1993.
