Innovative Solution in Emergency Generator Set The project was challenging because the site was relatively small and very restrictive; the hotel still required the widest range of modern amenities; and innovative design was required to economise on space. One design challenge was hotel’s belated requirement for continuous operation during power stoppage. This would require a much larger emergency power generator plus an additional fuel tank room under Hong Kong fire regulation (which would ruin the roof garden design). M&P resolved the problem by designing for a non-standard generator set (with the maximum size allowable without the fuel tank room) and matching it with an over-sized diesel engine. Final result: A larger generator set; with added continuous duty rating; the fuel tank room was not required; and the design solution was accepted by the hotel. |
